The Duggar Family

The Duggar family just had their 18th child.  This is an amazing family that believes in procreation just as God commanded.  The verses in Psalm 127:3-5 says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.   Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.  Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.”

In this article about the Duggar family, there were 5 comments dealing with having so many children. I find it sad that our culture is such that anyone who does something contrary to the “cultural norm” they get castigated!  Our culture will die down if people don’t start having more than “their share” of children.  Children would not be a “pain in the neck” if we taught them according to Scripture.  There is a right and wrong way of raising our children and the wrong way is to be concerned about the child’s self-image.  I have told my children many times that I don’t care about their self-image but I do care about their image in God’s eyes!

On the other side of the coin, there are many ladies who truly desire to have children and cannot do so.  To these ladies I would encourage to look into the possibility of adoption.  Many times those children who have no one are overlooked and unloved.  Remember, Ladies, that we, who are true believers in the Lord, are adopted into God’s family.  James 1:27 tells us, “True religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to keep himself unspotted from the world and to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction.”  What better way to visit the fatherless by taking them into your home and bringing them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?  They need godly, loving  parents just like our natural born children do and even more so because they have no one!

If you go to Adoption 3:16 you will read about families that have adopted and ways they can help to bring you through the hard times based on God’s Word.   Whether you end up with a huge family through natural birth or through adoption remember that the “fruit of the womb is God’s reward!”

  1. I think they are a brave family to hold so firmly to their convictions in a world that tries to teach true believers to be concerned only for themselves and nobody else. As the fruit of the womb is HIS (God’s) reward, then ALL 18 of the Duggar children are from HIM!

  2. I agree. God chose them to care for his children. They are so blessed.

  3. I think it’s sad that she allows her body to be a baby machine.

    • Sad? Is this just because you have something against babies? It is her body, after all, and she has every right to have as many babies as she wants just as you have every right to have NO babies. Just because it is something you may not like doesn’t give you any right to slam her. She actually has the right on her side because God did tell mankind to multiply and replenish the earth. In God’s eyes she is doing what she should be doing. I think the American mindset is such that if any woman has more than 1-2 children they think it’s horrible. She may think it’s sad that more women don’t have loads and loads of blessings called “CHILDREN”. As the Bible so plainly states, “The fruit of the womb is His reward!” I would rather be rewarded with children than to turn them down because I’m so selfish! It is, after all, selfishness to spurn God when He has commanded us to replenish the earth. Unfortunately, people refuse to obey God because they don’t want interference from those nuisances called children!

  4. Linda,

Isn’t that what “Pro-choice” is all about? Women doing with their bodies what they wish?

    Of course not.

The whole notion of “pro-choice” is this: “We support a woman’s right to use her body as she chooses… long as she chooses to abort.” That’s why I don’t even use that term anymore, and have replaced it with the term that is more appropriate: “Pro-abortion.”

PS–DPW, I’m sure you’ve seen that Michelle is now carrying #19. How cool is that!

    • fourpointer,

I think what Mrs. Duggar is doing is top-notch! God has not rescinded His command for us to multiply and fill the earth so I would take the view point that Mr. and Mrs. Duggar are fulfilling God’s command. I am so pleased to know of many couples who are not going along with the status quo. I am in complete agreement with your comment of “pro-choice” versus “pro-abortion”. If women are allowed to be pro-choice by the liberals then Mrs. Duggar has every right to hear from them that since she wanted to have more babies that was her right to choose. What concerns me are the ones who cheer on abortion (murdering babies before they’ve had a chance at life on this earth) then make snide remarks at those who believe that life is special because God created life! I take it these people wouldn’t have had a problem if their parents had aborted them or that’s what I read into their comments, anyway.

As we can’t have any more babies (which causes me sadness), I would encourage any set of parents to bring any and all children into the world that God gives them. Don’t take the easy and selfish way out! The Bible says that the fruit of the womb are His rewards. Children are a reward not a burden! If a couple can’t have children then adopt, adopt, adopt until the Lord closes the doors! Thanks for your words of wisdom, fourpointer!
